The Aghsan Foundation aims to act as a voice for people affected by climate change, with a focus on supporting and encouraging duty-bearers to protect people affected by climate change. The vision of this pillar is to ensure that the humanitarian impacts of climate change on displaced persons and host communities are both well understood and reflected in policy and practice, including in budgetary allocations, and that climate financing is proportional to the challenge. This pillar also seeks to ensure that the Aghsan Foundation is proactively contributing to the generation of evidence on the nexus between climate change, conflict, environmental degradation and displacement.

Working towards more evidence and advocacy for climate change

The Aghsan Foundation is striving towards being a key advocate and stakeholder for people affected by displacement in the humanitarian sector. As such, the Aghsan Foundation is contributing to evidence production on the climate change nexus. The poorest in society are not the ones causing climate change, but they are the ones that will most lose out. Their voices must be heard, and governments and aid actors need to be accountable in ensuring equitable access to essential services, otherwise we risk further displacement and families who will find it even harder to make ends meet or have even a basic standard of living.

Aghsan Foundation commits to respond to the global climate crisis and environmental degradation by increasing the adaptive capacities of people affected by climate change and by ensuring that our own conduct is nature-positive. Climate change is the defining crisis of our time and disproportionately impacts Iraq’s most vulnerable people. By making green thinking and action an organisational priority, Aghsan Foundation acknowledges that climate change is a global phenomenon that increasingly interacts with the drivers. Aghsan Foundation must address climate change systematically and ambitiously to address the current trends.
