is an independent Iraqi non-profit agriculture and environment foundation established in 2016 and officially registered in both federal and KRI regions of Iraq in 2017. Since its establishment, Al Aghsan has been working actively in collaboration, coordination, and partnership with all key actors and main stakeholders, including line ministries, specialized institutions, UN agencies, donors, regional agriculture and environment agencies, private sectors and other NGOs in the areas of agriculture, water resources, environment and development.
Al-Aghsan’s program is designed to strengthen the resilience of local farming communities in response to the protracted crisis in Iraq. It works to facilitate access of affected communities to economic opportunities through skills development for employment promotion and business start-ups, especially for youth and women, and supports public and private actors through training to promote job opportunities in order to increase self-sufficiency and help to develop sustainable livelihoods. Al-Aghsan’s program adopts an integrated multi-pronged approach that indicates identifying and application of sustainable solutions to go beyond the immediate effect on beneficiaries and farmers to a broader impact that touch the whole community and reflected positively on the agriculture sector. Linking of the targeted farming communities to the private sector and free markets is seen as a strategic method to ensure fulfilment of these intended results, and at the same time reduce the dependence on the state as being the only driver of the agriculture and economy in Iraq.
Build needed agricultural infrastructure to meet
Promote and lead the development of agriculture-based economy and environment sectors in Iraq in partnership and collaboration with other partners.
Initiate impactful programs to support food security and sustainable agricultural development in communities
Food and agriculture profoundly impact all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We primarily focus on SDG 2: Zero Hunger, while also prioritizing SDG 1: No Poverty and SDG 5: Gender Equality. By addressing these goals, we contribute to multiple SDGs, such as climate action, life on land, and good health and well-being, through sustainable food production and empowering marginalized communities.
