Al Aghsan Foundation

An independent Iraqi non-profit agriculture and environment foundation, registered in both the federal and KRI in 2017.

Al-Aghsan’s program is designed to strengthen the resilience of local farming communities in response to the protracted crisis in Iraq.

Since its establishment, Al Aghsan has been working actively in collaboration, coordination, and partnership with all key actors and main stakeholders, including line ministries, specialized institutions, UN agencies, donors, regional agriculture and environment agencies, the private sectors and other NGOs in the areas of agriculture, water resources, environment and development.

It works to facilitate access of affected communities to economic opportunities through skills development for employment promotion and business start-ups, especially for youth and women, and supports public and private actors through training to promote job opportunities, in order to increase self-sufficiency, and help to develop sustainable livelihoods.

Objectives

Improve the livelihood and standards of living of local farming communities, with a specific focus on the empowerment of women and youth.
Provide technical expertise, advice, and advanced training to governmental, non-governmental, and local institutions in agriculture, water resources, and the environment to build their capacities and enhance their self-reliance.
Strengthen the role of the private sector and non-governmental institutions in setting up and monitoring the implementation of policies and strategies relevant to an agriculture-based economy.
Contribute effectively to improving the environment in Iraq.
